CCleaner V 3.03 Basic Tutorial.avi

Date: Video created February 14 / 2011 Using FREE CCleaner CCleaner is a multifunction tool for keeping your PC safe, secure, and fast. In this section, you’ll learn how to clean your PC, clean the Windows Registry, manage which programs start when you start Windows, check for program updates, choose which files and Registry entries to include or exclude when you clean your system, and more. Removing System Restore points You can use CCleaner to remove System Restore points Registry cleaning The Windows Registry is a set of files that contains settings for your Windows PC – such as what program to use to open HTML files, when your antivirus program should run, or what desktop background you use. Choosing which cookies to keep A cookie is a small file that a Web site can place on your hard drive. It contains information about when you visited the site, and may contain tracking and settings information Wiping free disk space When you delete a file, Windows removes the reference to that file, but doesn’t delete the actual data that made up the file on your hard drive. Over time, this data will be overwritten as Windows writes new files to that area of the drive. This means that, given the right software, someone could reconstruct all, or parts of files that you’ve deleted. For privacy and security reasons, you can set CCleaner to wipe the free areas of your hard disk so that deleted files can never be recovered. Note: Wiping free space can take a substantial amount of time.
