Time to do it. Make sure you do a disk cleanup first to remove the temporary files. You don’t want them reorganized. You want them off before defragmenting your hard drive.

Jeff

will the files be harder to find after you defrag the hard drive? does my file scatter all over the hard drive?

My computer used to defrag my external hard drive and now it won’t. Any help for me? I noticed today that my external hard drive had the system file on it. How do I remove that from this hard drive? Isn’t one System file on C enough to run my computer?

Wow, this has gotta be like, the quickest most too the point tutorial i’ve found. Good shit. Thanks mate.

Some genius you are.
Defragmenting can increase speed drastically for a few tasks.

If you’ve got a HDD 50% filled, with 75% of the files fragmented, and you want to write a large uncompressed video to the drive, it’ll go very slow compared to a drive with contiguous free space and no small gaps between files. You should rethink your career, I believe you’re misleading your students.

@Robert Baker You might look to see what is loading at start up that you don’t need. Programs like to be added to the computer start up routine. Only a few need this. This would a tech geek thing.

Thank You I Have 74 % Free Space before def-raging But My Computer Was Running Very Slow Is This Going To Help Speed it Up Or Should I Do Something More ? Any Suggestions Are Greatly Appreciated !

@GsxRaider It will not delete files. It organizes them for greater efficiency and performance. Your computer should perform better.
