After days of research and trial / error I was able to get my WD TV Live HD Media Player to see my network shares on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Sorry about the pops in the audio. My wireless mic was about dead. I’ll rerecord the audio later. ANONYMOUS LOGIN TO ON On the WD TV Live go into Network Settings and verify Auto login to network share – On. Clear the login information once you’ve done that then hank the power, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. If this does not resolve the log in screen issue proceed to the registry fix below. The fix works on Vista as well. REGISTRY FIX TO ADD ANONYMOUS TO EVERYONE GROUP 1. Navigate to the following in the registry editor. MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ 2. On the right side, double-click on ‘everyoneincludesanonymous’ and change the ‘Value data’ from ‘0’ to ‘1’ 3. Double-click on ‘NoLmHash’ and change the ‘Value data’ from ‘1’ to ‘0’ 4. Navigate to the following in the registry editor: MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer \Parameters 5. Double-click on ‘restrictnullsessaccess’ and change the ‘Value data’ from ‘1’ to ‘0’ SCREEN SHOT FOR PERMISSIONS knoxcompguy.com

Great video. I follow all steps and it works.
thanks dude! worked like a charm!
I was using “Media Server” as my device, and the unit can’t see my MKV files. It could see them on a USB drive. Interestingly, when you use “Media Server”, file extensions aren’t shown, but on a USB drive they are. I used your instructions to switch to “Network Shares”, and sure enough I can now see my MKV files. Thanks. Anyone know why you can’t see MKV via Media Server though?
In the net view command if you get the error 6118 (I think that’s it) it’s most likely the Computer Browser service, and if the list is just empty it’s probably your firewall.
Thanks for this, I would add a couple notes that I had to do to make it ultimately work along with your work above.
Start the Computer Browser service, and set to AUTOMATIC
Make sure your firewall has the TCP/UDP ports forwarded for ports 135-139 on your home network where you want to share.
Open a command window and use the command ‘net view’ and if you do not see your sharing computer and the WD Live TV then it’s probably the computer browser service or your firewall.
Hi. I am wondering if you can help me. Equipment: WD TV Live Plus connected via HDMI to Sharp Quattron 46″ flat panel TV. Computers: Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, iMac, MacMini, all 2010-2011 equipment. Problem: Can not access network share always displays although WD TV Live recognizes all my home network computers. Network test check is successful. Question: Why can I not see the resources (medai data folders) although WD TV Live recognizes all computers? Puzzled. Thanks much. Jerry
Yes, finally I could watch Sons of anarchy through my wdtvlive in 720p. I have gone back and forth with this thing and when I finally found some files from my pc, the .mkv files wouldnt play unless I put them on a usb drive. Thanks for sharing this video. Forever grateful =)
I did this and now Ive lost permission to add or delete files from my harddrives.
Ive tried with administrator and anything else with no success 🙁
Thank you alot. Got my shares up and running now with like Live Hub.
@jkherberger You’re not running as an administrator. Make sure you have full administrator rights before you start changing permissions.
Thanks a lot man, I hate setting up these stupid boxes. I usually fart around until it works. This tutorial is great. One thing you probably mentioned, I had to allow write access to let wdtv create its folder, otherwise you get cannot play selected file error.
I had to refer to this again. I love you for this. Please never take it off of youtube.
So what happens when you want to share your media on your xbox or from a remote location? Will turning this feature back on interfere with the playback on the WD TV?
worked a charm… thanks
WORKED LIKE A CHARM and I got a Networking lesson on Windows 7!!
WD should hire you. YOU SAVED ME A TON OF HEADACHES! thanks so much!!
I didn’t even know you could allow your computer to share folders directly and therefore not needing to send them to the WD which had my harddrive connected to it. Now I am just going to connect my harddrive to laptop and watch them through streaming 🙂 Ps. the reseting the router and modem reset the WDTVLIVE under networks for me too! Thanks so much for your video and all the helpful responses to other people they truly helped me a ton! Cheers!
I had originally had my 500gb harddrive hooked up to my WD like you would a flash drive and sometimes the WD (and harddrive) would be shown and accessible under network as WDTVLIVE. Other times it would just disappear for a few days sometimes a week and then suddenly reappear which was really annoying sometimes being able to transfer video and other times not. I was looking for a solution to get the WD to permanently show under networks and stumbled across this video! I didn’t even know you….
Thanks! This worked for me!
Perfekt!
I was trying and trying and didn’t get it working. Thanks a lot for the work you put into this.
I love my WDTV and I will test this today!
Looks like it will work with your instructions.
Great!
Have a nice day

Lovely tutorial… Code it into a little GUI and sell it to WD 😛
